Excess insurance for car hire
Hi....
I was wondering if you could tell me how much it would be for insurance for car hire for a week? I'm looking to get the excess covered. Does it matter what country I'm in?
Thanks

Re: Excess insurance for car hire
Hi there,
I have contacted a company called Questor insurance with you query and they responded with:
'Car hire excess insurance with Europe wide cover for one driver for one week would be £24.08. If you wanted to add near home rental or more drivers the price would change, also it may be worth considering an annual policy if you intend to rent for any longer or again during the year.'
I hope this helps.

Hi -
I'm not sure why excess insurance is needed. Could someone explain this to me?
Thanks,
Mike

Re: Excess insurance for car hire
Hi,
I have contacted Questor insurance again and they responded with:
"When you hire a car it usually comes with insurance (although always confirm particularly in the USA see below). This insurance generally has an excess which is the first part of the claim that you have to pay rather than the insurer. For example if you have an accident and the repairs will be £950, if the excess limit is £500 on your policy then you will have to pay the first £500 and the insurer will pay the the remaining £450.
Excess insurance means that once you have paid this excess element you can make a claim and get that amount reimbursed to you directly.
The policy insures the excess as shown on the car rental agreement which includes loss or damage to any glass on the vehicle, tyres and under-body. This particular insurance also covers some elements that not all car hire insurance includes ie; Baggage (whilst in the vehicle), Personal Accident to anyone named on the policy, the Car Keys, Drop-Off charges and Locked Out charges
Questor will cover rentals worldwide and there is provision to top up the third party liability cover by up to $1,000,000 where the locally provided cover is inadequate. This is especially important if renting in North America where mandatory limits are very low."
I hope this helps
