Hey guys, hope you’re all doing good.

I am hoping to rent a car in France in November for a couple of weeks and while searching for the best deal I found this broker: Car Del Mar

They have the best deal for what I am looking for so far. However I could not find any reviews and have no idea if they are any good or not.

Has any of you tried this company before?
If yes, I would appreciate some comments.

Hi there, maybe I can help you as I have experience with this company, unfortunately.

I used car del mar to reserve car rental in Sardinia a few months ago. The actual car hire company was Auto-Europa. When I arrived to collect the car at Alghero airport, the guy behind the counter said there was an extra 35 euros to pay for the one way hire from alghero to olbia.

I had to pay the charge in order to get the car. Prior to making the reservation with Car del Mar we had actually phoned the company twice to confirm whether there would be an extra payment for dropping off at a different location and was told that if we booked the car for a week which we did, there would be no one-way fee. The voucher we received from Car del Mar stated that the only additional cost would be the obligatory Road Tax, of which we were aware.

When I returned to the UK I tried to claim the fee back but car del mar said we should have read the terms and conditions on the voucher and refused to reimburse us.

My recommendation is give this company a miss.

Pretty much ever car hire supplier will charge some sort of fee for one way rentals as they need to pay to get the vehicles back to their original depot, these charges are normally shown in your chosen suppliers Terms and Conditions this information can also be obtained by contacting the supplier directly prior to booking, although with some brokers who work with numerous suppliers in one location this can be difficult, but they should be able to give a guide as to how much the fee will be.

Terrible Company - BEWARE!
My boyfriend and I had an awful experience with this company last August when travelling to Italy. We pre-paid for a car to pick up at Pisa Airport but their partner company refused to give us the car on the basis that we didn't have £1500 credit on any of our cards. It stated in the terms and conditions of hire that were emailed to us that you needed credit of £500. They refused to take any of our credit or debit cards and wouldn't accept a cash deposit. Because we had already paid £250 for the car, we were reluctant to pay for another one from a different company. Maybe I'm being naive, but a £1500 deposit seems excessive and more to the point - it was never stated in the terms and conditions of hire!

We spent a long time trying to contact Car del Mar by phone as the sales assistant at the airport couldn't speak English. We were told that nothing could be done and that we would have to contact them via email if we wanted to file a complaint.

This ruined the first part of our holiday and we had to take a train then a taxi to our apartment which was in the Tuscan countryside outside of Lucca. We ended up spending a lot of money on taxis, buses and trains and it was generally just very inconvenient. We were lucky that our hosts were kind enough to lend us their car for a couple of days.

We complained to the company on arriving home but we have still failed to get a refund. Absolute fraudsters.
